Rainmaker, The (1957) -- (Movie Clip) Man to Man

Burt Lancaster, rainmaker qualities had a redeeming aspect to his con man way of talking the local farmers out of their money. Because they desperately needed rain water for their crops in the farmers fields. A guy helping a women dreams to come true, is not all bad. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, quote: The film tells the story of a middle-aged woman, suffering from unrequited love for the local town sheriff; however, she falls for a con man who comes to town with the promise that he can make it rain. It stars Burt Lancaster, Katharine Hepburn, Wendell Corey, Lloyd Bridges and Earl Holliman

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Katharine Hepburn) and Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture. Earl Holliman won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The Rainmaker play was remade as for American television in 1982, directed by John Frankenheimer and starring James Cromwell, Tommy Lee Jones, William Katt and Tuesday Weld

Les Miles is not so noble a con man, rather just a guy who struck it rich hustling up a head coaching job at Louisiana State University. Because instead of helping the LSU fighting tigers football teams dreams to come true. He himself is the reason they keep getting their hearts broken. Losing to the stronger college football teams on the LSU football schedule, year after year. The LSU program can't go forward, or fall back any worse they they already are. Because Les Miles can't coach. He is just a con man into coaching LSUs football team for the money. A flim flam man taking LSU for a ride. just another con man.

Journalists’ Addresses Posted In Revenge For Newspaper’s Google Map Of Gun Permit Owners | TechCrunch
A week after the Newtown massacre, The Journal News published an interactive Google Map with the names and addresses of gun permit owners in select New York cities. The bold move has escalated into a transparency arms race, after a Connecticut lawyer posted the phone number and addresses of the Journal‘s staff, including a Google Maps satellite Image of the Publisher’s home. “I don’t know whether the Journal’s publisher Janet Hasson is a permit holder herself, but here’s how to find her to ask,” read Christopher Fountain’s blog post. The double irony here is that open data was heralded as a tool of enlightened civic dialog, and has been co-opted for fierce partisanship, bordering on public endangerment.

The Journal‘s original publication of the map sparked nationwide outrage and thousands of angry comments. Gun permit holding is public information in New York, and can be acquired through a mere request via the Freedom of Information Act. But, coming on the heals of the Newtown shooting, the publication had a clear provocative intent. “New York residents have the right to own guns with a permit and they also have a right to access public information,” said a defiant Hasson.
Given that Bushmaster .223-caliber rifle used in the School shooting was reportedly legally registered with the killer’s mother, the Google Map sparked a debate about whether gun owners should be labeled like other potential menaces to society, “The implications are mind-boggling,” said Marine Scott F. Williams to The Journal News, “It’s as if gun owners are sex offenders (and) to own a handgun risks exposure as if one is a sex offender. It’s, in my mind, crazy.”

Tigers arrive in Atlanta

LSU practiced in Georgia Dome after landing Wednesday afternoon

Tiger Rag News Services

ATLANTA - Bowl week is finally here for LSU as the Tigers arrived at the Hilton in downtown Atlanta on Wednesday in what will be their home for the next six days.
Wednesday was busy for the Tigers as LSU departed from Baton Rouge, making the one-hour and 15-minute flight to Atlanta, where the team arrived shortly after noon. Following a team meeting and lunch, the Tigers then moved on to the Georgia Dome for the first of what will be four practices this week leading up to Monday’s game against 14th-ranked Clemson.

LSU and Clemson meet for just the third time on Monday, Dec. 31 at 6:30 p.m. CST in the Georgia Dome. The game will be televised on ESPN. LSU leads the series 2-0 with Clemson, winning 7-0 in the 1959 Sugar Bowl and 10-7 in the 1996 Peach Bowl.

“We are excited to be here,” LSU coach Les Miles said upon the team’s arrival on Wednesday afternoon. “Atlanta is a great place. It’s a destination for our guys. I know that they are looking forward to setting up shop here in Atlanta and getting prepared to play a very talented Clemson team.”

Wednesday’s practice was the first one for the Tigers here in Atlanta, but it came after eight workouts in Baton Rouge before LSU took a few days off for Christmas. LSU will practice 12 times with a walk-thru during bowl season, something that Miles said goes a long way in developing the younger players.

“In some instances, our bowl season is, by the number of practices, maybe even a little longer than our spring practice,” Miles said. “These extra bowl practices give us a chance to look at some of our younger players and improve and develop depth on the football team. I think bowl practices are a real benefit to your team as it allows individuals the chance for continued development while also preparing for an opponent.”

LSU will be tested by a Clemson offense that features an All-America quarterback in Tajh Boyd, a 1,000-yard rusher in Andre Ellington, and a pair of wide receivers in DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins, who combined for 126 receptions and nearly 2,000 receiving yards.

“Our defense will be presented with a great challenge,” Miles said of the Clemson offense. “They have an outstanding quarterback, a tremendous running back and some very good receivers. Our defense has really done a nice job of preparing for this game. We are going to have play well on offense and special teams so that we don’t give them the short side of the field.”

As a unit, Clemson is averaging over 42 points and 519 total yards per game. On the other hand, LSUs defense is among the best in the nation in yards allowed (8th at 292.2), rush defense (9th at 101.8) and interceptions (10th with 18). LSU is allowing just 16.9 points per game, a figure that ranks No. 11 in the country.
After practice on Wednesday, LSU players took part in the first of many bowl outings this week with a trip to Dave & Busters, a restaurant filled with arcade games, bowling, pool and many other activities for the players.

On Thursday, LSU players, along with Miles, will start the day visiting the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital followed by practice at the Georgia Dome at 1:30 p.m. LSU will cap the day with a trip to Andretti Indoor Karting where the players will get behind the wheel of some of the fastest go karts around.

Alabama is playing for history against Irish

December, 27, 2012
By Edward Aschoff | ESPN.com

When Alabama takes on Notre Dame in the Discover BCS National Championship, more than just a national title will be on the line. A shot at real history is there for the Crimson Tide, as they try to become the first back-to-back consensus national champion in college football since Nebraska in 1994-95, as well as the first school to win three national titles in the BCS era.

Alabama is moving into dynasty territory, and a win over the Fighting Irish would officially earn this team that distinction. The senior class has won 48 games over the past four seasons. A win down in Miami would break the SEC record Alabama shares with Florida (2006-09) and tie the NCAA record of 49 shared by Nebraska (1994-97) and Boise State (2006-09).
