What does the big verbal pledge from High School football players mean?

GoldRing: "Anyone with any kind of college football history seems to agree that LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis is one of the very best college defensive coaches in America. If I was a very good high school defensive football player, I would jump to go signup to play, and learn, what I could from LSU coach Chavis.
The LSU defense has become much better since head coach Les Miles hired him back in 2009 to present. LSU will keep getting better as long as coach Chavis is coaching the LSU defense. I just wish that the LSU fighting tiger football team had his kind of coaching ability on offense?

I would just love to one day see LSU go into a college football season, able to fight with both hands?

I have a feeling that the LSU present football players don’t share my feeling about Les Miles coaching ability. And that the LSU football players don’t give a flying blank how I feel about him. I hope that it all work out for the better. Because LSU has some of the best college football players playing the game today. Everyone knows that it really takes a team working hard together, making as little mistakes as possible, to beat a equally strong opponent. If you really want to win."

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

Good morning, Tiger Fans,
LSU entertained several top recruits this weekend and picked up a big verbal pledge from Marquedius Bain (DT, 6'3", 305, Fort Lauderdale, FL). Those of you who follow DandyDonLSU on Twitter saw that I tweeted the news yesterday afternoon after confirming it with my source on the LSU side, but then a little later Bain tweeted, “I didn't commit yet people but will commit at the under amour (sp.) all star game.” However, the cat (or the Tiger in this case) was already out of the bag. Bain seems to have a great attitude about the way this played out and later tweeted, “I love these LSU fans.” Bain has offers from Alabama, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and many others, and will make his official declaration on January 4 at the Under Armour All-Star game. Out of respect for Bain, I will not include him on our commitment list until he has his time in the spotlight on national TV.

LSU also made quite an impression on three other big-time recruits this weekend in Jamal Carter, Priest Willis and Josh McNeil. Of the three, the most likely to be LSU's next commitment is Jamal Carter, the 6-1, 175 four-star safety who is currently committed to Miami. Carter and his family reopened his recruitment because of concerns over Miami's looming NCAA investigation. I've learned that Carter was thoroughly impressed with his visit to LSU and the staff feels very good about where they stand. Priest Willis, also a superstar safety, really enjoyed his visit as well and tweeted some very encouraging things about his experience in Baton Rouge.

I suspect that Willis’ decision/announcement won't be made for a while, and that even if LSU gets a commitment from Carter in the meantime they would make room for Willis. McNeil (6'5", 226, Durham, NC) is the tight end who is currently committed to Alabama. I don't know if his experience at LSU was enough to flip him, but I do know that he thoroughly enjoyed his visit. McNeil, Carter, Willis and Bain all spent a lot of time with All-American and projected first-rounder Eric Reid who made quite an impression on them. Read more...http://www.dandydon.com/

DT Maquedius Bain reportedly commits to LSU

By scott rabalais

Did he commit or didn’t he? That was the question regarding Maquedius Bain after an official weekend visit to LSU.
Three national recruiting services — 24/7 Sports, Rivals and Scout — reported that Bain became LSU’s 24th commitment Sunday.

Meanwhile, ESPN held back, saying Bain is not ready to make a commitment public and will wait until an announcement Jan. 4 at the Under Armour All-American Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.

There was little doubt on any front that Bain — a 6-foot-5, 285-pound defensive tackle from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University — was wowed by his weekend in Baton Rouge, telling ESPN that he would feel comfortable playing at LSU.
A decommitment from Florida State in July, Bain took official visits to Oklahoma and Marshall in November before making the trip to Baton Rouge this weekend.
Bain is a four-star prospect according to ESPN and Scout, rating him No. 43 and No. 245, respectively, on their lists of top national prospects.

Rivals and 24/7 Sports give Bain three stars.
LSU had several other major prospects in for official visits over the weekend, including five-star defensive back Priest Willis (6-2, 199) of Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos de Niza; Miami Southridge safety/athlete Jamal Carter (6-1, 190), a Miami commitment; and Durham (N.C.) Milford tight end Josh McNeil (6-5, 226), an Alabama commitment ranked No. 131 on the ESPN 150.
Willis is ranked as high as No. 23 nationally according to Scout, while Carter tops out at No. 197 on the 24/7 Sports Top 247.

Meanwhile, ESPN reports that wide receiver Courtney Gardner (6-2, 215) of Sierra (Calif.) College is weighing whether to come to LSU or make himself available for the NFL draft.Read more...http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/4700194-123/dt-maquedius-bain-reportedly-commits

New Jersey Flouts Law on Sports Wagers, Draws Challenge From Athletic Leagues

By ALEXANDRA BERZON

[image] Getty Images The NCAA has challenged moves toward sports betting in New Jersey, which hosted the 2011 East regional final in the college basketball tournament, Kentucky vs. North Carolina, above.

New Jersey, like most states, is prohibited by federal law from allowing betting on sports events, but Monmouth Park racetrack is taking the initial steps toward offering wagers on football, basketball and baseball games.

Although a long shot, Monmouth President Bob Kulina's effort is being encouraged by New Jersey officials, who have issued sports-betting regulations that flout the 20-year federal law that sharply limits the practice.

A federal judge in New Jersey on Tuesday will consider whether sports leagues can challenge New Jersey's effort, which is one of several by states seeking to introduce or expand sports betting.

A ticket from a bet made on Super Bowl XLV in Las Vegas.
In 2010, a group of online sports-betting operators began to work with New Jersey officials to formulate a challenge to the federal law. Last year, around 63% of New Jersey voters approved a referendum allowing a change in the state Constitution to permit sports betting.

This year, Gov. Chris Christie gave the green light for race tracks such as Mr. Kulina's and Atlantic City casinos to offer sports betting, claiming the federal law was unconstitutional under states' rights and equal-protection arguments.

The Justice Department has yet to weigh in on the effort. Instead, the major professional and college sports leagues—including the National Basketball Association, the National Football League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association—are challenging the state's sports-betting regulations in the federal court. They have asked for an order that would at least temporarily halt New Jersey's nascent licensing process. Read more...http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324677204578185734003879740.html
